The YMCA of the Greater Tri-Cities is proud to congratulate Lindsay Sanchez on signing with Cruz Azul, one of Mexico’s premier professional soccer clubs.

EVERY JOURNEY STARTS SOMEWHERE.

For Lindsay Sanchez, the journey began at the age of 5 in the Pasco YMCA soccer league. From the very beginning, she embraced every challenge. Her mom, Abby Sanchez, recalls that Lindsay never hesitated to compete against the boys. In fact, she enjoyed scoring against them. For nine years, Lindsay played in the YMCA soccer leagues, competing in both indoor and outdoor seasons. She was often the only girl on her team, helped lead several championship teams, and rarely missed a practice. Her commitment, determination, and love for the game stood out from an early age.

Former YMCA coach Martin Rivera remembers recognizing Lindsay’s talent from the very first time he saw her play.

“It wasn’t a surprise to people who knew Lindsay that she made it to the professional level. I remember the very first time I saw her at the Pasco YMCA. She wasn’t just a talented individual player; at a very young age she already understood how to be a team player. She was different from the rest of the players because she understood the game better than anyone in the pitch.”

Rivera says Lindsay’s story reflects what youth sports are all about.

“The YMCA is a great place for kids to start playing soccer and learn the grassroots of this beautiful sport. You’re never too young to begin building your path. The key is to enjoy playing, love the sport, and have fun. That’s what I noticed every time Lindsay stepped onto the field.”

Lindsay’s journey is a powerful reminder of the impact youth sports can have. At the YMCA, every child has the opportunity to build confidence, develop character, make lifelong friendships, and discover a passion that can last a lifetime. We are proud that the Pasco YMCA was part of Lindsay’s foundation and grateful to celebrate this incredible accomplishment with her.

Congratulations, Lindsay! Thank you for inspiring the next generation of YMCA athletes. Your YMCA family will always be cheering you on.
