Please review our Youth Sports Inclement Weather Policy to understand the measures we have in place to ensure the safety of all participants.

At the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Cities, the safety of our participants, families, coaches, and staff is our highest priority. Weather conditions can change quickly and may impact outdoor activities and youth sports programs. To help ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone, the YMCA has established guidelines for responding to a variety of weather conditions, including lightning, extreme heat, poor air quality, snow, and other potentially hazardous situations.

Staying Safe During Outdoor Activities

Weather conditions can change quickly, and being prepared helps ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Whether it’s extreme heat, poor air quality, lightning, or winter weather, families can help support participant safety by:

Stay Informed
Check weather forecasts before practices and games, and watch for updates from the YMCA regarding schedule changes or cancellations.

Come Prepared
Dress appropriately for the weather conditions and bring any recommended items, such as water bottles, sunscreen, hats, jackets, or other weather-related gear.

Prioritize Hydration
Staying hydrated is important during physical activity, especially in warm weather. Participants are encouraged to drink water before, during, and after activities.

Be Aware of Changing Conditions
Pay attention to signs of weather-related illness or discomfort, including dizziness, fatigue, nausea, or difficulty breathing, and notify a coach or YMCA staff member if concerns arise.

Follow YMCA Guidance
The YMCA may cancel activities when conditions are deemed unsafe. These decisions are made with the safety of participants, families, coaches, and staff in mind.

Our Youth Sports Inclement Weather Policy outlines the procedures and safety measures we use when responding to lightning, extreme heat, poor air quality, snow, ice, and other hazardous weather conditions. We encourage all families to review the policy and stay connected through our communication channels for weather-related updates.

Together, we can help create a safe, positive environment where youth can learn, grow, and play throughout the year.
